Testing the X-ray variability of active galactic nuclei with the nonlinear prediction method

چکیده
The analysis of eight EXOSAT X-ray lightcurves of six active galactic nuclei by nonlinear prediction methods indicates that the observed variability is truly stochastic and is not caused by deterministic chaos. This result favors X-ray emission models with mutliple centers of production of hot, possibly relativistic electrons.

A Novel Fuzzy Based Method for Heart Rate Variability Prediction
Abstract In this paper, a novel technique based on fuzzy method is presented for chaotic nonlinear time series prediction. Fuzzy approach with the gradient learning algorithm and methods constitutes the main components of this method. This learning process in this method is similar to conventional gradient descent learning process, except that the input patterns and parameters are stored in mem...
متن کاملX-ray Variability of Active Galactic Nuclei and the Flare Model
Short-term variability of X-ray spectra has been reported for several Active Galactic Nuclei. Significant X-ray flux variations are observed within time scales down to 10—10 seconds. We discuss short variability time scales in the framework of the X-ray flare model, which assumes the release of a large hard X-ray flux above a small portion of the accretion disk. The resulting observed X-ray spe...
متن کاملX-ray Variability and Spectral Scaling: a Measure of Blr Sizes in Agn
We developed a new method of determination of the size of the broad emission-line region (BLR) in active galactic nuclei. This method relates the radius of the broad-line region of AGN to the soft X-ray luminosity and spectral index. Comparing the BLR distances calculated from our model to the BLR distances determined by reverberation mapping shows that our scaling law agrees with the R ∼ L1/2 ...
متن کاملX-ray Surveys and Wide-Field Optical/Near-Infrared Imaging with JDEM
I briefly describe a few important scientific issues that could be addressed effectively via the combination of data from JDEM and X-ray missions. The topics covered are largely focused on active galactic nuclei (AGN) and include (1) the selection of AGN via X-ray emission and optical variability, (2) nuclear outbursts in galaxies due to transient fueling of their supermassive black holes, (3) ...
متن کاملWeighing the black holes in ultraluminous X-ray sources through timing
We describe a new method to estimate the mass of black holes in Ultraluminous X-ray Sources (ULXs). The method is based on the recently discovered “variability plane”, populated by Galactic stellar-mass black-hole candidates (BHCs) and supermassive active galactic nuclei (AGNs), in the parameter space defined by the black-hole mass, accretion rate and characteristic frequency. We apply this met...
